Player Housing in Where Winds Meet

Housing in Where Winds Meet is a surprisingly flexible system. Unlike many open-world RPGs where homes are locked to specific plots, WWM lets you construct buildings almost anywhere in the Jianghu once you unlock the construction system. If you want a quiet lakeside cottage, a house in a bustling town, or a multi-story military compound, you can build it; you just need the materials and a good spot.

And with the release of the Hexi expansion, global players can now purchase furniture recipes throughout Where Winds Meet. Prior to the March 5 expansion, players had to acquire furniture in some roundabout ways in order to furnish their homes or rentals.

Prosperity Haven - Mansion Rental in Kaifeng

House Rentals

Before you start decorating, you need somewhere to live. Right now, the global version offers two main ways to claim your own space: renting property in Kaifeng or building a structure yourself. But first you need to unlock Kaifeng.

Here’s how you unlock Kaifeng area.

Progress through the main storyline until you finish the “Still Shore” and “Blissful Retreat” story segments in Qinghe. After completing these, you’ll unlock the quest that lets you travel by boat to Kaifeng.

When you arrive in Kaifeng, head to Southern Gate Avenue (the quest line will take you there anyway). Look for the vendor associated with the Feng’s Tradehall, who manages all available rental properties.

You can rent a house in Kaifeng from Feng’s Tradehall. You can rent for one month or multiple months ahead using Commerce Coins. House rentals are for expanded storage for trade items. Each rental has a certain amount of extra storage for your trade items. There are three homes for rent in Kaifeng:

  • Dwelling: Costs 100 coins per month with 15 storage slots.

  • Compound: Costs 1000 per month with 30 storage slots.

  • Mansion: Costs 10,000 coins per month with 60 storage slots. Has a stable where you can sell up to five horses per week for Commerce Coins.

Renting is immediate and does not require any building materials. You can customize rentals to a certain extent. You can furnish it, but you cannot build on the property. You can also fast-travel to rental properties.

Construction Mode - Building Your House

If renting feels too restrictive, or you want to have both a home in the city and a home out in the world, Where Winds Meet also lets you build your own home almost anywhere in the open world. Yes, you can own multiple homes and build multiple homes as well.

Unlocking Construction Mode

You won’t be able to build immediately when starting the game. Construction unlocks after reaching around level 25 and completing the exploration quest “Building: One Last Job.”

During this quest you will:

  1. Travel to Halo Peak in the Qinghe region.

  2. Speak with the NPC Yang Yuan.

  3. Repair a pagoda using basic building pieces.

  4. Learn the fundamentals of the construction system.

Once the quest is complete, Construction Mode becomes available and you can begin building structures in the open world.

To enter Construction Mode,

  • PC: Press F4

  • PS5: Open the function wheel and select Build Mode

How to Start Building Your First House

After unlocking construction, creating your first house is fairly simple.

Step 1: Find a Good Location

You can build in most open areas of the map, though major towns and quest zones usually block construction.

Good building spots usually have:

  • Flat terrain (very hard to find)

  • Near fast travel points

  • Easy access to NPC vendors

  • Scenic views (because why not?)

Many players choose remote areas near waterfalls, lakes, or mountain cliffs for aesthetics.

Step 2: Enter Construction Mode

Once you’ve chosen your location:

  1. Stand in the area where you want to build.

  2. Lay a foundation so that your build is even.

Step 3: Build the Structure

Inside the build menu you can start placing pieces:

  • Foundations

  • Walls

  • Roof segments

  • Doors and windows

  • Interior furniture

You can either build from scratch or use pre-designed diagrams that automatically assemble structures once you supply the materials. Some example diagrams include:

  • Multi-Story House

  • Low-Level Inn

  • Four-Rafter House

  • Tall Tower

  • Wooden Bridge

Once you've poured your heart into building your dream home, you can preserve it using the Cradle Blueprint system.

  • Creating a Blueprint: In build mode, you can define a 30x30 block area that encompasses your creation. By holding the corners of this diagram, you can expand the range. Once satisfied, select "Create Diagram" to save your entire build as a blueprint.

  • Saving and Reusing: You can save your blueprints (PC: ~ / PS5: L3) and use them to copy your designs to place in different locations. This is perfect for sharing your architectural masterpieces with friends or quickly setting up a standard base design without recalculating material costs.

How to Acquire Furniture

With the Hexi expansion now live, global players can now purchase a variety of furniture and diagrams from vendors. Before, you could only acquire limited furniture through crafting or taking from the rental homes in Kaifeng.

  • Feng’s Trade Hall in Kaifeng has a wide selection of housing furniture in addition to scenario furniture. Remember to pay attention to the ones you select.

  • Tang Qi in Karez in the Hexi area sells desert-style housing diagrams as well as furniture.

Coming Soon (Based on CN Server Content)

From what we've seen on the Chinese servers, a lot more housing features are on the way. These systems already exist in the CN version of the game and are expected to arrive for global players in future updates.

Feature Status Description
NPC Recruitment ("Join My Base") 🔜 Coming Soon Recruit NPCs to live and work at your property. This system forms the foundation for future housing workshops.
Functional Workshops 🔜 Coming Soon Facilities like Ink Studios, Pottery Workshops, and Winemaking stations that require recruited NPCs to operate.
Farming Plots 🔜 Coming Soon Grow your own ingredients for cooking and crafting. Crops can be harvested using a light attack.
"Alive" Homes System 🔜 Coming Soon NPC residents perform tasks, send mail, and trigger random mini-events, making your estate feel dynamic and lived-in.
Companion System (Housing Integration) 🔜 Coming Soon Non-combat NPC companions who can live in your home and travel with you on adventures.
Cinematic Tools 🔜 Coming Soon Advanced camera controls, lighting adjustments, and dialogue tools for creating in-game scenes and storytelling.

Housing in Where Winds Meet is still growing, but the foundation is already impressive. You can rent property in Kaifeng, construct buildings across the open world, and now we have more options to decorate our spaces with furniture thanks to the Hexi expansion.

The deeper systems—NPC residents, workshops, and living homes—are clearly on the horizon. When they arrive, players who already understand the building system and have materials stocked up will be in the best position to take advantage of them.

So, gather some wood, mine a few mineral deposits, and start building.

The Jianghu is a big world. You might as well make it feel like home.
