Nacon Pro Compact Controller White Review (Xbox Series X|S & PC)

The Nacon Pro Compact Controller White is an officially licensed wired controller for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. Originally designed as a more accessible alternative to the standard Xbox controller, its biggest selling point is its smaller, more ergonomic form factor—something that immediately stood out to me as a PC-first gamer with small, slender hands.

I don’t use controllers often, but for games like Cyberpunk 2077 (especially driving) or fighting games like Mortal Kombat, I absolutely need a controller. I’ve always preferred PlayStation controllers because traditional Xbox controllers feel bulky and awkward in my hands. The Pro Compact for Xbox is different.

Feel and Ergonomics (Small Hands Friendly)

I have small hands and slender fingers, and standard Xbox controllers often feel oversized. The Pro Compact is about 15% smaller than a standard Xbox controller, and that difference is immediately noticeable.

My fingers rest more naturally on the triggers and face buttons, and I don’t feel like I’m constantly adjusting my grip mid-game. The controller feels balanced rather than top-heavy, and the textured back provides just enough grip without feeling rubbery or uncomfortable.

If you’ve ever wished Xbox controllers felt closer to a PlayStation controller in size and comfort, this is one of the closest comparisons I’ve tried.

Performance on PC and Xbox

As a PC gamer, reliability matters more to me than extra features. The Pro Compact is wired only, which means it’s fully plug-and-play on Windows and requires no drivers, has no connection issues, and no pairing nonsense.

Driving in Cyberpunk 2077 feels smooth and controlled. Analog stick input is responsive, and the triggers offer consistent resistance, making it easier to modulate speed instead of overcorrecting. For fighting games like Mortal Kombat, inputs register cleanly and consistently. The D-pad is perfectly usable, though competitive fighting game players may still prefer a dedicated fight pad.

Input latency isn’t something I’ve noticed at all. Everything feels immediate, which is exactly what you want from a wired controller. My only issue with the chord is how stiff it is, but I guess that’s necessary.

Build Quality

This isn’t marketed as a premium controller, but it’s well-built and it feels preem to me.

The plastic feels solid, the buttons have a firm, deliberate press, and nothing rattles or feels loose, even after years of occasional use. Face buttons are slightly firmer than a first-party Xbox controller, which I actually prefer.

The triggers are basic—no adaptive resistance and has standard haptics. They’re consistent and dependable, which is all I really need.

Customization and Software

Nacon offers a companion app through the Microsoft Store that allows you to:

  • Remap buttons

  • Adjust analog stick sensitivity

  • Fine-tune trigger response

  • Create custom profiles

The controller works perfectly without the app, which I appreciate. Customization is optional, not mandatory, but it’s a nice bonus if you like dialing things in for specific genres.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Compact size is ideal for small hands

  • Comfortable alternative to bulky Xbox controllers

  • Plug-and-play on PC

  • Reliable wired connection with low latency

  • Solid build quality for the price

Cons

  • Wired only (no wireless option)

  • D-pad is good, but not best-in-class

  • No premium features like adaptive triggers or advanced haptics

Final Verdict: Is the Nacon Pro Compact Controller Worth It?

The Nacon Pro Compact Controller is a strong option for players who find standard Xbox controllers too large, especially PC gamers and players with smaller hands.

It doesn’t try to compete with high-end controllers loaded with features. Instead, it focuses on comfort, reliability, and accessibility. And it succeeds. If you want a controller that feels closer to a PlayStation controller in size but remains fully compatible with Xbox and PC, this is a solid, practical choice.

Sometimes “pretty decent” is exactly what you need, and in this case, that’s a compliment.
