Getting Started with Resource Gathering

In Fallout 76, resources aren’t just lying around; they’re tied to specific locations, objects, and loot types. You’ll need to explore everything from abandoned factories to office buildings, and sometimes the odd destroyed robot or junk pile will drop exactly what you need.

If you’re low level and have yet to unlock most of the map, one of the best ways to gather materials quickly is to fast-travel to other players’ CAMPs. Explore that area, scavenge lootable containers, and sometimes even pick up resources you wouldn’t normally find in your region. Be careful, though. Even though in many areas the mobs’ level scales with yours, high-level enemies can still spawn in certain areas. If you find a piece of Chameleon armor, equip it to sneak past dangerous spots and grab resources without a fight.

Another tip: always pay attention to what you’re looting. Certain items break down into rare materials. For example, aluminum cans, ski poles, and trays are your go-to for Aluminum. Steel beams, tools, and scrap metal will keep you stocked for almost every CAMP and crafting need.

Below, you’ll find a searchable, sortable table of Fallout 76 resources. You can search by name, location, or items to breakdown, making it easy to plan your next gathering run. The database includes high-value resources, common crafting materials, and workshop info.

High-Value Resources

Some resources are rarer than others, but they’re worth the effort because they’re used in critical crafting and mods. You’ll find Nuclear Material, Flux, and Fiber Optics in locations like the RobCo Factory, Whitespring Bunker, and industrial labs. If your goal is to craft energy weapons, advanced armor mods, or mutations, prioritizing these materials will save you time later.

  • Nuclear Material – Found in RobCo Factory, Whitespring Bunker, and AREF Labs. Workshops here can help you gather more efficiently.

  • Flux – Look for chemical stores, labs at Whitespring Resort, and industrial areas. Workshops make extraction easier.

  • Fiber Optics – Often looted from office buildings, RobCo terminals, and Vaults. No workshops required.

You’ll also want to grab common resources like Steel, Wood, Concrete, Adhesive, and Oil along the way. These are found almost everywhere and are essential for crafting weapons, ammo, CAMP structures, and crafting benches.

Save Time Resource Farming

  1. Plan Your Route – Some locations respawn faster than others. Rotate between high-yield areas to maximize your gathering.

  2. Use Workshops – If a resource can be harvested at a workshop, claim it and set up extractors. This gives you a steady supply without constantly roaming.

  3. Carry the Right Tools – A good weapon isn’t just for combat. Certain tools or weapons can break down objects faster, like using a pickaxe for ore or a machete for scrap wood.

  4. Keep an Eye Out for Containers – Trash cans, lockers, desks, and cabinets often contain components you might otherwise overlook.

  5. Your Inventory – Always check what items can be broken down into more valuable resources. Sometimes a simple bottle or tin can make a huge difference in crafting.
