Fallout 76: Easiest Pioneer Scout Challenges to Complete

In Fallout 76, completing the Pioneer Scouts challenges to become a Pioneer Scout comes with lots of rewards. But the challenges, which are many, can prove to be a bit difficult and definitely time consuming. But oh are they worth it! So far, there are two levels to being a Pioneer Scout: Tadpole and a Possum.

How to Join the Pioneer Scouts of America

All across Appalachia, you will come across Pioneer Scouts posters. You’ll definitely see Pioneer Scouts posters at train stations. And with the Brotherhood of Steel’s Steel Dawn DLC, the Pioneer Scouts posters can now be placed in player C.A.M.P.S. Click on the poster anywhere. This will give you a mission that leads you to the Pioneer Scout Camp in Toxic Valley aka Camp Lewis. Caution: if a mission or quest requires you to go to Camp Lewis, they’re sending you to the Pioneer Scout Camp. Once you enter Camp Lewis, you will hear the trumpet play and you will follow the cues from there to begin the challenges to complete Order of the Tadpole. The Pioneer Scouts posters are one of the in-game purchases from the Atom Store.

To see the requirements needed to complete the Pioneer Scout challenges, you will need to go to Map, then Challenges on the upper right hand corner, then to your left, scroll all the way down to World. Move your cursor over with World still highlighted, then scroll all the way down to see the Tadpole challenges. You will need to complete three Tadpole challenges before you will have access to complete the Possum challenges.

Even though there are some challenges that are way easier to complete than others, they still take quite a bit of time to complete.

The Easiest Order of the Tadpole Challenges for Pioneer Scouts

In addition to taking the exams at Pioneer Scout Camp, you will need to complete different challenges around Appalachia. They are time-consuming and a bit difficult. If you’re looking to knock out the Order of the Tadpole challenges quickly, the five easiest challenges to complete are Codebreaker, Athlete, Medic, Entomologist, and Cook.

Tadpole: Codebreaker

With Codebreaker, you will have already completed most of these without having began the quest. The only thing you would have left to complete for Codebreaker would be the Exam and launching a nuke if you had not already done so at that point.

  • Pass the “Codebreaker” knowledge exam at an exam terminal

  • Hack into skill level “0” terminal (3/3)

  • Hack into skill level “1” terminal (3/3)

  • Hack into skill level “2” terminal (3/3)

  • Hack into skill level “3” terminal (3/3)

  • Solve a nuke code sequence by launching a nuke

Tadpole: Athlete

The Pioneer Scouts Athlete challenge is probably the easiest to do. It’s just athletic courses and an exam. Clear out the enemies from the surrounding area, complete the obstacle course, then boom!

  • Pass the “Athlete” knowledge exam at an exam terminal

  • Have an Strength stat greater than or equal to 5

  • Have an Agility stat greater than or equal to 5

  • Complete the athletic course at Camp Venture

  • Complete the athletic course at New River Gorge Bridge

  • Complete the athletic course at Sunnytop Ski Lanes

Tadpole: Medic

The Pioneer Scout Medic challenge pretty simple. The materials and ingredients to craft antibiotics, disease cure, and healing salve are pretty easy to find. The most difficult part about the Medic exam will likely be finding a Stimpack Diffuser to use. The recipe for the Stimpack Diffuser is a possible reward from doing the Project Paradise event, keeping all three of the creatures alive. The recipe isn’t a guaranteed drop, however. So, what you can do is ask friends if they have a Stimpack Diffuser, check player vendors, and of course, keep doing Project Paradise.

  • Pass the “Medic” knowledge exam at an exam terminal

  • Craft Antibiotics (3/3)

  • Craft Disease Cure (3/3)

  • Craft Healing Salve (3/3)

  • Use Stimpack Diluted (3/3)

  • Use Stimpack (3/3)

  • Use Stimpack Super (3/3)

  • Use Stimpack Diffuser (3/3)

Tadpole: Entomologist

The most difficult thing about completing the Entomologist challenge is acquiring Mothman’s wing, finding Cave Crickets, and Honey Beast.

  • Pass the “Entomologist” knowledge exam at an exam terminal

  • Complete the “Path to Enlightenment” event

  • Acquire a “Mothman” Wing

  • Take a camera picture of a Bee Swarm

  • Take a camera picture of a Bloatfly

  • Take a camera picture of a Bloodbug

  • Take a camera picture of a Cave Cricket

  • Take a camera picture of a Firefly

  • Take a camera picture of a Honey Beast

  • Take a camera picture of a Rad Ant

  • Take a camera picture of a Radroach

  • Take a camera picture of a Radscorpion

  • Take a camera picture of a Stingwing

  • Take a camera picture of a Tick

Tadpole: Cook

The most difficult parts of completing the Cook challenge is getting the Scorchbeast meat to drop from the Scorchbeast to make a Cranberry Meatball Grinder. Each time I killed a Scorchbeat or Scorchbeast Queen, I’ve only gotten Scorchbeast Liver and Scorchbeast Brain to drop. The only thing you can do is keep farming Scorchbeasts.

  • Pass “Cook” knowledge exam

  • Cook food while wearing a Chef’s Hat (10/10)

  • Cook Blackberry Honey Crisp

  • Cook Brain Bombs

  • Cook a Cranberry Meatball Grinder

  • Cook Seared Venison with Berries

  • Cook S’mores

  • Cook a Sweet Roll

  • Cook Yao Guai Roast

Also note that when making Brain Bombs, you need to find pristine, undamaged Sugar Bombs. That means finding Sugar Bombs that have no radiation. You can find non-irradiated Sugar Bombs at the following locations:

Flatwoods

  • Flatwoods Church, at the very top on the steeple.

  • Red Rocket, just down the road from Flatwoods Church. You can find 1-2 on the roof. You will need either a jet pack or Marsupial serum to get on top of the roof.

Beckley

  • Sal's Grinders'. 1-2 can spawn in the kitchen

The Easiest Possum Challenges

Possum: Photographer

The Photographer challenge is the easiest of the Possum challenges to complete. You modify your camera, make some film, then take pictures of various places across Appalachia.

  • Pass "Photographer" knowledge exam

  • Mod a Camera

  • Craft camera film (50/50)

  • Take a camera picture of the Charleston Capital Building

  • Take a camera picture of Grafton Dam

  • Take a camera picture of Top of the World

  • Take a camera picture of a Wendigo

  • Take a camera picture while it’s foggy

  • Take a camera picture while it’s raining

  • Take a camera picture at night

  • Take a camera picture at sunrise

  • Take a camera picture at sunset

Possum: Backpacker

While the Backpacker challenge is pretty easy, the most difficult part about this challenge is getting the Pemmican. Pemmican is acquired only as a reward for completing specific Pioneer Scout quests like Operation: Tidy.

  • Pass "Backpacker" knowledge exam

  • Craft a backpack

  • Boil water

  • Consume Hotdogs

  • Consume Pemmican

  • Consume S'mores

  • Build a camp fire in a Workshop or C.A.M.P.

  • Build a turret in a Workshop or C.A.M.P.

  • Build a tent in a Workshop or C.A.M.P.

  • Visit Central Mountain Lookout tower

  • Visit Camp Adams Lookout tower

  • Visit Dolly Sods Lookout tower

  • Visit East Kanawha Lookout tower

  • Visit East Mountain Lookout tower

  • Visit East Ridge Lookout tower

  • Visit Flatwoods Lookout tower

  • Visit North Kanawha Lookout tower

  • Visit North Mountain Lookout tower

  • Visit Pioneer Scout Lookout tower

  • Visit Ranger Lookout tower

  • Visit South Mountain Lookout tower

  • Visit Whitespring Lookout tower

Of course this is not a comprehensive list of all of the Pioneer Scout challenges. These are, in my opinion, the easiest Pioneer Scout challenges to complete in Fallout 76. I will do my best to keep this updated as patches add and removes requirements.
