Guide to Fishing in Throne and Liberty
Fishing in Throne and Liberty can be a peaceful escape once you get the hang of it. Fishing is a valuable skill that you will need to cook unique dishes, sell fish at the Auction House for profit, or to compete in fishing events in the game. Still, there’s a lot that goes into fishing in Throne and Liberty and if you don’t know what to do, it can become frustrating very quickly.
Get the Right Fishing Rod
Before you can start fishing, obviously you will need a fishing rod. There are a few ways to get a fishing rod in Throne and Liberty.
Purchase a Bamboo Fishing Rod from the Contract Coin Merchant for 300 Contract Coins.
Complete the Appendix: The Romance of Fishing questline, which unlocks after finishing Adventure Chapter 3: Adventure of Expedition. This quest rewards you with a Bamboo Fishing Rod.
Craft a fishing rod once it becomes available to craft.
A fishing rod may drop from mobs along the beaches. However, I wouldn’t advise farming for a fishing rod in this way because gear drops are frustratingly rare.
Throughout the game, better fishing rods become available through crafting or gathering materials in Mystic Portals, where you can find upgrades for your fishing gear.
How to Get Bait for Fishing
Like most RPGs that have fishing, you will need bait to attract fish. Different bait is used to catch specific fish. The different types of bait include:
Paste Bait: Buy a Fishing Bait Chest Container with 50 Paste Bait for 30 Contract Coins from the Contract Coin Merchant, commonly found in major towns like Kastleton.
Worm Bait: Farm Star Trees across Solisium for a chance to get this bait.
Shrimp Bait: Farm crustaceans along the coastline, which increases your chances of catching smaller fish.
Fish Fillet Bait: Obtain this bait, which boosts your odds of landing larger fish, by collecting it from Big Catch Sacks.
How to Catch Rare Fish
Rare fish in Throne and Liberty are incredibly valuable for cooking recipes. The rarer the fish, the more powerful food buff they provide. To catch rare fish, you must understand each fish’s unique habitat and the game’s weather conditions. For example:
Blue Fish are found in rocky areas and warm waters, especially during rain. Look for them southeast of Windhill Shores and in the Fonsiné River in Belphoret.
Green Fish are native to coral reefs and freshwater bodies, Green Fish can be found throughout Solisium, particularly in the rivers of Lanquis.
Tips for Fishing in Throne and Liberty
To make the most of your fishing sessions in Throne and Liberty, follow these simple tips:
Prepare Your Equipment: Always ensure your fishing rod and chosen bait are equipped before heading to a fishing spot.
Target the Best Spots: Cast your line into deep water where the marker lights up blue. If the marker turns red, the water is either too shallow or unsuitable for fishing.
Reel in with Care: Once a fish bites, carefully follow the prompts to reel it in. The goal of this fishing mechanic is to keep the fish in the middle while reeling it in. On PC, you will use A to pull left and D to pull right. You may also find it helpful to disable Fix Camera While Fishing. To disable Fix Camera While Fishing, go to Settings > Gameplay > Content > Fishing (all the way at the bottom). Pay attention to both your stamina and the fish’s stamina bar to avoid losing your catch.
How to Upgrade Your Fishing Rods and Bait
As you play through Throne and Liberty, you’ll be able to upgrade your fishing rods, which will allow you to catch bigger and rarer fish. Keep an eye out for crafting materials or rewards from Mystic Portals, which may offer better rods. You may also have a chance for an epic fishing rod with +3 fishing from Amitoi missions in Stoneguard. Regularly stock up on bait for the different fish.
Why Fishing Matters in Throne and Liberty
Fishing in Throne and Liberty isn’t just a relaxing hobby. It’s a necessary profession to enhance your gameplay either with powerful food buffs or making good money at the Auction House. It can also be difficult to learn at first. But learning to fish in Throne and Liberty is well worth the few minutes of frustration that it may take to get used to it.
