Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty Release Date, New Trailer

Phantom Liberty, the highly anticipated expansion for Cyberpunk 2077, finally has a release date. CD Projekt, in collaboration with special guest star Keanu Reeves, announced during Sunday's Xbox Showcase that the expansion will launch on September 26, 2023. Reeves, known for his role as Johnny Silverhand in the game, introduced the Phantom Liberty trailer with his trademark enthusiasm, reminding fans why he continues to be a pop culture icon and fan favorite.

The expansion brings back Reeves' character along with the addition of Idris Elba as Solomon Reed, taking players to a new district of Night City called Dogtown. The official description from the trailer's YouTube page reveals that Phantom Liberty is a spy-thriller expansion, where players assume the role of the cyber-enhanced mercenary V. In the new trailer showcased by CD Projekt Red players embark on a high-stakes mission of espionage and intrigue to save the President of the New United States of America or NUSA. In the dangerous district of Dogtown, players must navigate a web of shattered loyalties and sinister political machinations. Survival will require cunning and skill.

Phantom Liberty is available for pre-order on various platforms, including GOG.com, Steam, Epic Games Store, the PlayStation Store, and the Microsoft Store, for $29.99. But there will be some features that will be free with the update 1.7 and will not require Phantom Liberty.  It is important to note that the expansion will only be released for the PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X versions of the game. Support for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions ended with the version 1.6 Edgerunners update released last fall. This decision aims to avoid any potential launch issues, learning from the initial Cyberpunk 2077 release debacle.

The Phantom Liberty trailer shows the addition of new weapons, mechs, enhanced combat, including vehicle combat, and the introduction of mechs. V will have a new skill tree and cyberware. CDPR has also overhauled the Night City policing system as well as added elements from the Edgerunners animated series.

Despite a rocky launch, Cyberpunk 2077 has managed to sell more than 20 million copies as of September 2022. The announcement of Phantom Liberty marks another exciting addition to the Cyberpunk franchise. Furthermore, CD Projekt Red has already begun working on the next game in the series, codenamed Orion, providing fans with even more reasons to look forward to the future of the beloved dystopian universe.
