A Comprehensive Guide to Acid in Once Human

Once Human is a vast and immersive world, where certain materials are key to survival. And acid is one of the most important and scarcest resources in the game. Acid is the key ingredient in creating many much-needed items in the game. Though acid is scarce, there are several ways to acquire acid. Here’s a comprehensive guide to acid, what it is used for, and how to maximize your acid inventory in Once Human.

The Many Uses of Acid

Acid is the cornerstone of crafting in Once Human. It's a key ingredient in producing ammunition, a must-have for survival against the game's myriads of threats. In addition to ammunition, acid is used for smelting aluminum and tungsten, which are needed for constructing advanced structures and equipment. Acid is also used for fuel production, for your vehicles, and for powering your territory.

Farming Deviants to Acquire Acid

Early in the game, players will encounter various Deviants like Gnawers and Charred Maniacs. These Deviants drop acid. Throughout the game, you will come across towns and facilities filled with these Deviants. Farming Deviants in these places is a good way to stock up on acid as well as scavenging junk, like Disinfectant, that can be broken down at the Disassembly Bench into acid and other useful materials.

Keep in mind, that only Deviants and other Stardust-corrupted enemies drop acid. Human enemies, on the contrary, drop gunpowder.

Crafting Acid with Brewing Barrels

Brewing barrels in Once Human aren’t just for brewing beer and other beverages; they can also be used to refine impure acid into a purer form suitable for crafting. To craft acid using the brewing barrel, first, go to Memetics, the Logistics tab, then unlock the Brewing Barrels Memetic. The crafting recipe for a brewing barrel includes Logs, Adhesive, Rubber, Aluminum Ingot, and Acid.

Once constructed and powered, players can place Purified Water and Impure Acid into the brewing barrel. The fermentation process will then convert these materials into usable acid. It's important to monitor the brewing barrels closely, as leaving items for too long can lead to spoilage, although this does not apply to acid production.

Finding Impure Acid

Impure acid, the raw material required for the brewing process, can be sourced from polluted water zones. That means that to make this setup work, you must build or move your territory to an area with a high concentration of Stardust pollution.

You will need to set up Water Pumps in these areas to extract the contaminated water, which is then processed through Reverse Osmosis Purifiers to yield impure acid. This impure acid is the key ingredient for brewing barrels, transforming it into the much-needed acid for crafting. Be mindful that this method also uses a lot of electricity.

Memetic Specializations

Memetic Specialization gives players a few options to create acid in their territory: Sulphur Chemist and Art of Stardust. The Memetic Specialization option pool is random for each player.

Art of Stardust Decay

Art of Stardust Decay may show up in the last tier of the Memetic Specializations. Stardust Decay allows players to convert Stardust Source into Acid using the Electric Furnace. You can get Stardust Source as a reward for completing Silos, activating Rift Anchors, Extraction sites, and other methods. Unless you regularly farm Silos, I wouldn’t recommend using Art of Stardust too often.

Sulfur Chemist

The Sulfur Chemist Memetic Specialization might be the best method for acquiring acid. Sulfur Chemist (sometimes misspelled in the game as Sulphur, hence my sporadic use, just in case) may appear in the fifth tier of the Memetic Specialization or it may be a boss drop as a memory fragment from Securement Silo Theta in Red Sands. Sulpher Chemist allows you to craft acid at the Advanced Synthesis Workbench using Sulphur and Energy Links. Sulfur is easy to find and practically everything you do yields Energy Links.

Acid is an invaluable resource in Once Human, required for an array of crafting materials. Whether actively farming from enemies, passively crafting through synthesis benches, or refining with brewing barrels, once you understand the plethora of ways to acquire and use acid, surviving becomes easier.
