Rumors and Leaks Confirmed at Blizzcon 2019 Day 1

Overwatch 2, Diablo 4, Hearthstone and World of Warcraft Shadowlands have all been confirmed on the first day.

For weeks, people have leaking rumors about Blizzard Entertainment’s popular games and franchises. Well, there are a few that turned out to be true and announced the very first day of Blizzcon.

Overwatch Gets a Sequel: Overwatch 2

Overwatch 2 follows the Overwatch Archives timeline in succession: The Omnic Crisis, Establishment of Overwatch, The Fall of Overwatch, Recall, then Overwatch 2.

Key takeaways from the Overwatch 2 reveal:

  • All of your accomplishments and loot from Overwatch carry over to Overwatch 2

  • Overwatch players will be able to play with their friends on Overwatch 2 on PvP multiplayer mode

  • New heroes. FINALLY! An unambiguous Black femme hero, Sojourn joins the team. We’ve been waiting for this day for years.

  • Story missions and co-op are coming. While the original Ovewatch has co-op missions, they are reserved for their seasonal events. These co-op modes in Overwatch 2 will be attuned to Overwatch’s overall story.

  • Hero customization

  • New maps

We don’t know much else about the new Overwatch game except it will be released in 2020. Given that it follows the Overwatch anniversary event timeline, it’s possible it will be released on Overwatch’s anniversary in April. What we do know is that Overwatch 2 will be released on all gaming platforms: PC, Xbox One, Playstation 4, and Nintendo Switch.

Diablo IV is Official

Diablo IV looks amazing. It’s always been dark, but Blizzard devs really put their heels and all their toes into this project with the realism and grittiness. The popular RPG series usually leaned more toward a bit of a cartoonish look. Diablo 4 was designed using a brand new engine to release simultaneously on PC, Xbox One, and Playstation 4.

This latest installment of the Diablo franchise will focus on the evil brought on by Mephisto’s daughter, Lilith and will take place after Reaper of Souls. Techradar reports from Blizzcon that Diablo 4 “will feature an open world map with five regions, day and night cycles, and a non linear campaign.” The first 3 champions are Barbarian, Sorceress, and Druid.

World of Warcraft Shadowlands

The Banshee Queen, Sylvanas Windrunner, returns to Icecrown Citadel to dethrone Lich King Bolvar Fordragon. In the cinematic trailer, Sylvanas and Bolvar battle, with the powerful Banshee defeating him, taking his helm and ripping it apart. And with the destruction of the crown, she declares she will set us all free. The destruction of the crown tears open the eternal veil that separates the living from the Shadowlands.

What we know about Shadowlands:

  • New zones: Rivendreth, Bastion, Maldraxxus, The Maw, and Ardenweald

  • Choose a covenant: This looks to work similar to The Burning Crusade’s choosing Aldor or Scryers combined with Legion’s Class Halls.

  • New Main Player Hub: Oribos, The Undying City

  • New raids and dungeons. Obviously.

  • Torghast, Tower of the Damned: This dungeon allows you to complete solo or in a group. The dungeon also changes with each run.

  • Players will be capped at level 60 to enter Shadowlands.

Hearthstone’s Descent of Dragons

This latest Hearthstone expansion pack centers on Galakrond, the father of all dragons. The League of Explorers take to the skies to battle the League of E.V.I.L. with these new goodies:

  • New keyword: Invoke

  • New mechanic: Sidequests

  • New hero cards: Galakrond

Protests at Blizzcon 2019

Blizzard head, J. Allen Beck issued an apology as protesters gathered outside of Blizzcon, CNN reports.

"We moved too quickly in our decision and then to make matters worse, we were too slow to talk with all of you." I am sorry and I accept accountability."

"We will do better going forward. But our actions are going to matter more than any of these words. As you walk around this weekend, I hope it's clear how committed we are to people expressing themselves."

It seems as if Blizzard Entertainment covered all the fan-favorite bases within the first day of Blizzcon. There’s no telling what they have in store for the remainder of the convention. Are you properly excited?
