Rare Plants in Once Human and Where to Find Them

Once Human gives players an immersive experience, requiring foraging, farming, and cooking for survival. The plants of Once Human are scattered across its dangerous landscapes, each with unique properties and culinary uses. Some plants, however, are rare and hard to find at first. Here are some of the rarest plants and where they can be found.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes in Once Human are as versatile as they are in the real world. In lore, tomatoes can be found in the sun-soaked fields of the Red Sands region. However, they do not grow in the wild. If you are looking for tomatoes, buy tomato seeds from Johnathan in Greywater Camp in the Iron River region. Tomatoes are a key ingredient in making a Bacon Burger, which makes mining and logging require only one strike to complete the action. You can find the Bacon Burger recipe in the Sunbury Fried Chicken restaurant in the town of Sunbury in the southern region of Broken Delta.

Onions

Like tomatoes, onions do not grow in the wild. The vendor, Emma Potter sells onion seeds at her shop in Tall Grass Inn in Chalk Peak. Emma Potter’s shop is atop the cliff behind Tall Crass Inn. Coming from the entrance to the center of Tall Grass Inn, make a left and go up the stairs behind Mark and follow the stairs all the way up, through the café, around the cliff behind the big sign, until you get to the house. You will find Emma inside. There are also cabbage, pumpkin, and beet crops behind the house. I have not seen onions grow in the wild. At least not yet.

Cucumbers

Cucumbers are the hydration heroes of Once Human, Zhao Jintan sells cucumber seeds in Meyer’s Market. These refreshing vegetables are perfect for the Signature Ice Brew drink, which increases your resistance to pollution by 30% and it increases your Sanity recovery speed when out of combat.

Coconut

While coconuts aren’t exactly rare, these tropical delights can still be difficult to find. You can find coconut palm trees along the beaches of each Broken Delta as well as surrounding the Teleportation Tower closest to Sunbury Middle School, also in Broken Delta. Remember, they have to be coconut palm trees, not just “palm”. You can distinguish regular coconut palm trees from regular palm trees by the visible coconuts atop the coconut palm tree. To gather coconuts, you will need an advanced pickaxe or chainsaw to cut coconut palm trees. I was able to gain coconut with a Tungsten Alloy Pickaxe. Sadly, the coconut palm tree does not drop seeds.

Grapes

Grapes grow in the lush, southeastern corner of the map and near the Iron River area. They can be hard to see because they look just like regular bushes instead of grapevines. Grapes are also pretty scarce. Luckily, some Teleportation Towers have grapes near them. For example, to grab some grapes quickly, teleport to The Teleportation Tower in Southern Chalk Peak just below Securement Silo EX1. Grapes are one of the ingredients in Orange Pie, which gives you a 25% XP boost against monsters.

Bananas

Bananas are a tropical treat that can be found swaying in the trees of the Dayton Wetlands and Broken Delta. Banana trees do not produce seeds, so you need to chop a few banana trees whenever you need them. Legendary recipes that require bananas include the Anti-Gravity Milkshake, which temporarily increases your carrying capacity, enabling you to haul more resources without being weighed down.

Morel

The elusive Morel mushrooms are a delicacy in Once Human. Just like in IRL, these fungi are delicacies renowned for their rich flavor. Unfortunately, morels do not grow in the wild. Since they do not grow in the wild, how do you get morel? Morel seeds can be found randomly in high-level areas like Red Sands. Check the metal cabinets with drawers as they usually contain food supplies, including seeds. Also, supply crates and trash cans have a chance to drop morel seeds.

Players across forums, Reddit, and YouTube say the best place to find morel is in Red Sands and they’ve had regular or somewhat regular success finding morel seeds mostly in the “metal cabinet with drawers” storage and trash bins in Securement Silo, Sunshine Farm, and 73 Source Extraction Point. I have had absolutely no luck but I will update once I do.

Finally Found Morel Seed - Location: 73 Source Extraction Point

Update August 3, 2024 - I found a morel seed in the metal cabinet with drawers in 73 Source Extraction Point.

Morel can be used in high-end recipes, including Spectral Canned Mushroom, which stuns nearby monsters for 3 seconds every 5 seconds, and Yuanbao Dumplings, which brings the player good luck.

Combining Flavors for Survival

The culinary system in Once Human is intricate, with each recipe offering unique buffs and benefits. Some dishes allow you to experiment with different combinations of ingredients to discover new benefits that may fit your playstyle.

Once Human offers a rich tapestry of flora for players to explore and use in various aspects for survival, from the hard-to-find Morel mushrooms to the robust cabbages, each plant gives each dish an enhanced buff. As you traverse the different biomes of Nalcott, discover the joys of foraging, farming, and feasting on the fruits of your labor. Whether you're a seasoned chef or a novice forager, the world of Once Human is ripe for exploration, and its rare plants are waiting to be discovered and savored.
