Tony Hawk Documentary “Pretending I’m Superman” Finally Gets Release Date
Pretending I’m Superman: The Tony Hawk Video Game Story is the highly anticipated documentary about Tony Hawk’s incredible rise from professional skateboarder to video game mogul. Wood Entertainment will release the documentary August 18 on digital platforms just ahead of the reboot of $1.4 billion Tony Hawk Pro Skater video game series to be released September 2020.
“PRETENDING I'M A SUPERMAN is a robust, real-life story of our successful videogame series as told by those who created it, and many who were inspired by it” said multi-record-breaking skateboarder and documentary subject Tony Hawk.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series took the world by storm in 1999, selling 9 million copies at release, bringing the sport and culture of skateboarding to mainstream. Almost every kid thought they were a pro skater after playing Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. Pretending I’m Superman tells the story of the skaters and developers who came together to create one of the most popular video games of all time.
The documentary features never before seen footage with legendary skater Tony Hawk as well as interviews with industry stars Steve Caballero, Rodney Mullen, Chad Muska, and Jamie Thomas. Director Ludvig Gür takes audiences on an intimate journey, telling the story of how Tony Hawk and top skaters rescued the skate culture by bringing it to the masses with their best-selling namesake game.
Wood Entertainment CEO, Tara Wood, negotiated a deal with producer Ralph D’Amato for the rights to Pretending I’m Superman back in May.
“Tony Hawk has one of the most inspiring stories ever told, from groundbreaking skater to gaming mogul” said Wood. “We are thrilled to present it to its worldwide audience."
