Once Human Beastmaster Class Guide
How to Get Started as a Beastmaster in Once Human
A while ago, Once Human introduced the ability to tame animals, allowing us to breed animals with unique traits for producing meat, farming, or just keeping around. Now, with the latest update, they’ve introduced class professions: Gardener, Chef, and Beastmaster. Beastmaster goes beyond just breeding animals for production. From wolves to tank-like mutant bears and resource-hunting boars, you can have your own 3-man posse of bad-ass beasts.
How to Choose the Beastmaster Class
Right after the tutorial, you’ll talk to Miss Memory, who gives you the option to choose your first class. Pick Beastmaster to start building your animal army immediately. Unlike other classes, this one gives you instant access to animal taming. You don’t have to pour Ciphers into the Memetics tree right away.
You’ll receive:
A Beast Whistle to summon and command your beast
Your first pet companion of your choosing
Exclusive crafting blueprints for gear and mutagens
Starter Pets
After you select Beastmaster, you get to pick from one of three beasts as a companion, each with a unique role and skillset.
Pongo (Boar) is the gatherer. He’ll find rare materials and track down loot, though he’s not made for fighting, which is surprising considering how aggressive they are in the wild.
Misha (Bear) is your tank. This beast soaks up damage and is great in tough zones and boss fights.
Shiro (Wolf) is a damage-dealer. With time and use, Shiro evolves, gaining more strength and abilities.
How to Tame Animals in Once Human
Taming is pretty straightforward. You can tame beasts even if you do not choose the Beastmaster class. You will simply need to go to the Logistics tab in Memetics and at Tier 4, unlock Capturing Animals, Taming Animals, and Breeding Animals.
When attempting to tame an animal in Once Human:
Approach carefully. With the Beastmaster class, you gain the Beast Whisperer ability, meaning wild animals won’t run away or attack (unless you attack them), but you still want to be cautious.
Weaken the animal. Bring its HP down below the white capture line.
Use tranquilizers. Craft Tranquilizer Arrows or Throwing Needles at the Supplies Workbench and use them once the animal is weak.
Store and tame. Once the animal is sedated, it goes into your inventory. Build a pen to house them and start the taming process.
Make sure to look at each animal’s tier and traits before taming. Some traits make a huge difference later on.
Traits to Watch For
Ferocity increases attack power.
Resilience grants temporary invincibility at low health.
Stormchild boosts damage during storms.
Docile makes taming faster.
Animals range from C Tier to S Tier, so always aim for the ones with higher potential when possible.
Feeding and Building Tameness
To build trust with your new companion, you need to feed them properly. Build an Animal Trough near their pen and keep it stocked with their favorite foods.
Here’s what each starting animal likes best:
Bear: Fish
Boar: Fruit
Wolf: Meat from large animals like deer and buffalo.
Leopard: Meat from large animals like deer and buffalo.
Wild Buffalo: Grains and vegetables
As their Tameness increases, you’ll unlock new commands and start bonding with them. Keep their energy and hydration above 30 percent at all times.
You can convert raw ingredients into efficient feeds using the Kitchen Set or Electric Stove, which helps with storage and efficiency.
How to Use Mutagens
Mutagens allow you to modify and enhance your pets by adding or changing traits.
Here’s what you need to do:
Gather Deviant Factors from mutated enemies. They have a chance to drop when your pet gets a kill.
Craft mutagens using the Supplies Workbench.
Apply them to your animals once they reach high enough tameness.
Some examples of mutagens include:
Fireborn: Blaze damage to attacks.
Icebound: Slows enemies on contact.
Stormsinger: Buffs pets during rainy weather.
Crafting Gear for Your Pets
The Beastmaster path gives you access to exclusive gear that boosts your animal's combat and support abilities.
Here are a few examples:
Metal Claw: Helps your pet mine minerals from the environment.
Smart Helmet: Gives XP when your pet makes kills.
Animal Backpack: Increases how much weight your beast can carry.
Pets to Track Down and Tame
Not all pets are available from the beginning. As you explore more zones, you’ll find better candidates to add to your roster.
Here are a few to look out for:
Boar: In Manibus, the best place to find boar is Iron River and Chalk Peak. Boar in The Way of Winter scenario are rare, but there are a few spawn points:
- [Ember Strand - Fallen Ashes: (-6705.97,3534.54) – This is the best spot for boar in WoW.
- [Ember Strand - Fallen Ashes:(-7281,3690)]
- [Onyx Tundra - Great River Danger Zone:(3627,3980)]
Bear: In Manibus, you can find bear in Northwest Chalk Peak, near the Monolith of Thirst. In WoW, you can find polar bears at Sea of Floating Ice, Onyx Tundra and Bright Sea, Vena Fjord. You can find corrupted bears in Wishland along with one standard bear.
Wolf: You can find packs of wolves in Red Sands in and Blackheart in Manibus. You’ll also run into corrupted wolves in settlements with heavy stardust and deviants. In WoW, you can find wolves at Avalanche Danger Zone, Vena Fjord.
Leopard: The best place to find leopards in Once Human The Way of Winter is in between Wish Land East and Wish Land West.
Buffalo: You can find buffalo all throughout Vena Fjord, especially near Whalebone. In Manibus, you can find buffalo in Chalk Peak.
When you’re ready to breed, look for rare traits and match your pets by species. You can’t breed across types, but biome-specific versions can create new looks and strengths.
Tips to Keep in Mind for Beastmaster Class
Here are a few things to keep in mind as you grow your furry team:
Breed for rare traits if you want unique advantages in combat or farming.
Upgrade your pet gear regularly to match your current level and environment.
Keep your fur-family fed. Keep an eye on your pet’s hydration and food levels. Neglect leads to lower tameness and weaker performance.
Aim for S Tier animals with top traits and combine them with strong gear and mutagens.
You cannot tame birds.
Beastmaster is such a fun class in Once Human. It’s nice to play a post-apocalyptic survival game with the ability to create your own team of powerful beast companions to keep you company and fight alongside you.
