Finally! A New Half-Life Game, Alyx, But It's Not Half-Life 3
Half-Life 3 confirmed? Nope. But there is a new Half-Life game coming very soon.
Earlier this week, Valve announced the next installment to the Half-Life series, Half-Life: Alyx. Half-Life fans have been waiting over a decade for Half-Life 3. Naturally, fans of the franchise were excited. There’s just one catch, though. Half-Life: Alyx is not Half-Life 3.
Half-Life: Alyx is a full-length, prequel game that takes place just before the events of Half-Life 2. Remember in Half-Life 2 where Alyx’s dad gets kidnapped? That’s the event that kicked off Alyx’s revolution against The Combine.
Oh yeah, did we mention that Half-Life: Alyx is a full-on, virtual reality game? You read that right. This single-player FPS requires a VR headset and is available for pre-purchase on Steam for $53.99 and will be available March 2020.
Geoff Keighley, who chronicled the original Half-Life in 1997 in his article "The Final Hours of Half-Life, and Half-Life 2 in 2004, sat down with the Half-Life developers, who have been working on this project in secrecy for a few years.
Will Valve be working on more Half-Life content after this? Valve developer Robin Walker says, "We're very excited about building more Half-Life that's for sure.” David Speyrer added to that, "We want to put this out and see how the world reacts to it before we make any concrete plans to what we do next.” cough Half-Life 3 confirmed (maybe).
