The Best Way to Clean Your PS5 to Keep It Running Like New
If you find that your PS5 is making noise, overheating, or running slowly, it’s time for you to give it a thorough cleaning.
The PlayStation 5 was released in November 2021. It’s 2023 and PS5 consoles are still pretty hard to get ahold of as most retail companies that sell gaming consoles still have a waiting list. That’s why it’s important to keep your next-gen consoles clean. Replacing a next-gen console will be difficult should your PS5 get damaged from built-up dust, dirt, and debris.
Cleaning your PS5 regularly helps prevent:
Overheating
Malfunctioning
Increased noise
Basic External PS5 Upkeep
Cleaning inside the PS5 is just as easy as cleaning the exterior with iFixit’s guide.
To clean the outside of your PS5, you’ll need a few tools:
Compressed air can
Microfiber cloth
Isopropyl rubbing alcohol
Low-powered vacuum cleaner
Soft-bristle brush/toothbrush
If your PS5 is on a stand, you will need a flathead screwdriver to remove the vertical stand. Beneath the stand, there’s a cubby to store the stand screw.
To begin cleaning your PS5 console
Power it off and unplug it.
Place the PS5 on a hard, flat surface, laying down sideways.
Remove the PS5 faceplates by gently pulling off the PS5 covers. There are no screws.
Use your compressed air or low-powered vacuum to tackle dust, dirt, hair, and/or other debris.
Use the soft-bristle brush to clean the fins and ports.
Apply rubbing alcohol to the microfiber cloth to clean surfaces and remove excess dust.
After cleaning, reattach the faceplates.
How to Deep Clean Your PS5
For a deeper, clean, you’ll want to open your PS5 as described above. In addition to the already mentioned tools, you’ll need a T8 screwdriver and tweezers.
Use the T8 screwdriver to remove the four screws from the fan plate and gently pull the fan out.
Remove the plastic cover underneath the fan plate.
Use the tweezers to gently remove the plug connecting to the fan.
Carefully remove the fan with your hands.
Apply isopropyl to the microfiber cloth to clean both sides of the fan’s surface.
Use the soft bristle brush to clean the heatsink fins inside the fan.
If needed, use the low-powered vacuum to clean the remaining dust.
Reassemble your PS5.
How to Clean Your PS5 Controller
Cleaning your PS5 controller is fairly easy. Keeping your controller clean can help you avoid controller drifting and getting stuck in a game. To clean,
Power your controller completely off.
Use a microfiber cloth with isopropyl and gently wipe the surface, including the base of the analog sticks.
Before turning your controller back on, let the controller dry completely.
If your PS5 console begins to malfunction or overheat due to accumulating too much dust, cleaning your console will likely solve your problem. However, if you still have issues after cleaning your PS5 console, contact PlayStation Support for service.
