The Division has a great story.
Everyone loves a good story. And The Division series has a great one. One of the things that make this series so interesting is how real the possibility of this event can be. In Tom Clancy’s The Division, a bio-chemical outbreak—a man-made, smallpox-like virus overtook New York City. The Division, a super covert, sleeper agency, is activated to trace the virus to its source. In the midst of the outbreak, different criminal groups rise to control NYC, including rogue Division agents.
The Division has great solo play and co-op.
Complete missions and explore the vast, open world with one to three of your friends, or go solo. Both The Division and The Division 2 have explorable buildings that are not instanced. While there’s no trade option between players, items can still be traded by dropping said item, allowing others to pick it up.
One thing that players really enjoy about The Division series is that players must rely on intelligent strategies when encountering a group of enemies. Players will not be able to simply aim and shoot their way out of most situations. You will need the right weapon, skill combination, and attributes. This is especially important during solo play. And when you squad up, pairing complementary skills and attributes makes a huge difference.

While character customization in the first game is a bit lacking, The Division, in general, offers better representation than many AAA games out right now. There are not many games where Asian representation is varied. But in The Division, I’ve noticed Chinese American, Korean American, and Vietnamese American representations. There’s also Muslim American representation.
While many non-PoC gamers may not think representation is important in a video game, every piece of media, including video games, reflects how people should or could be treated. It’s also meaningful to those groups of people being represented.
The Division makes for beautiful game photography.
The Division is beautifully made. Though the events have made the city streets gritty and grimy. However, the scenery is still gorgeous. Both New York City, in The Division, and Washington DC and NYC in The Division 2 look so authentic. So much so that players compared The Division screenshots to reality throughout both cities.
Though the first game does not have a photo mode, players can still take beautiful photos in-game. With The Division, you can hide the UI and take a screenshot, either through Steam on PC or whichever platform you play on. And The Division 2 has one of the best photo modes in gaming to date.
No game is perfect. But these four things make Tom Clancy’s The Division series an enjoyable looter shooter that you will keep coming back to. All in all, if you haven’t played The Division yet, consider giving it a try. There’s usually a sale on Green Man Gaming or on Steam. There’s also free weekends here and there.
